Coagula: The Work of Michael Cowell

This short documentary explores the work of artists and illustrator, Michael Cowell - inspirations, philosophies and style of working. This is the sixth in a short documentary series, 'Why We Create', about artists, musicians and craftspeople. Filmed and edited by Tom Walsh.

About

Michael Cowell is a Commercial Artist based in Nottingham, England working in ink, paint, print, and digital media.

He has produced limited edition hand printed gig posters for bands as diverse as The National, Kyuss, High on Fire, Dandy Warhols and Queens Of The Stone Age, whilst also illustrating and designing music packaging for a wide selection of other signed and unsigned groups.

This work has led him to participate in and co-curate more than fifty exhibitions in the UK, Europe and the USA, and see the recognition of being included in coffee-table hardback books on the history of art and music, be on TV about it, and get asked his opinions about things, due to some misunderstanding that these may somehow be interesting.

Hopefully, one day this will all make sense...
